Among the most interesting attractions for tourists are the White House, which is the official residence of the President and the Capitol, the seat of American Congress. It is situated on the Capitol Hill, which is the highest point in the city. There is a law in Washington
The White House, built in 1799, consists of more than a hundred rooms. The most known and largest of them is the East Room. It is the place where state receptions and balls are held. There are also some other famous rooms: the Green Room, the Blue Room and the Red Room. They are used for afternoon teas and receptions before state dinners. On the second floor there is the Lincoln Room, which is now turned into an honour guest’s room. It is a very important room because the Emancipation Proclamation, that freed slaves in 1863, was signed there.
